Jail escapee apprehended

NEWPORT — An escaped Pend Oreille County Jail inmate was arrested Saturday, ending more than a month on the lam.

Ryan Andrew Apling was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation shortly before 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Camden Road in Elk, Wash., according to the sheriff’s office.
