SPOKANE - Moses Lake baseball scored its first win of the season after a 4-1 road win against Mead.

The Chiefs jumped on Mead early, scoring one run each in the first and second inning before adding two more insurance runs in the seventh.

"We executed well all day so, you know, that was kind of one of the things I was really proud of the boys," head coach Quintz Whitaker said. "They were actually able to take care of... Do some of the little things we've been working on in practice so it was good to see it transfer over into a game."

Nathan Ball was the catalyst for Moses Lake.

The junior lead the team with three RBIs and also controlled the ebb and flow of the game behind the plate.

"Every day it could be anybody that steps up for us," Whitaker said. "That was Nate's day yesterday, he picked us up. Like I said, had a great game behind the plate for us. He definitely controlled the game defensively for us as a catcher."

Kevin Cosper pitched three innings, fanning three Panthers in the process.

Blake Springer also drove in a run.

Although Spring Break nears, Moses Lake will have no respite from the diamond. The Chiefs have three more non league games before beginning league play April 8 against Davis.

Whitaker would've liked a break before the league schedule begins, but he isn't worried about fatigue affecting his team.

"If you were to give them a break anyway most of them are going to do stuff on their own," he said. "The break might end up being more for the coaches than it is for the players. These guys they're going to go and put their time in because they love doing this anyhow."

Moses Lake travels to face Richland today. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
