MOSES LAKE - Viking baseball passed its first test of the relatively young season.

Kicking off NWAACC East play, Big Bend (10-3, 1-1) split a doubleheader with Yakima Valley. The Viking offense sputtered dropping the first game, 4-2, however Big Bend was able to recover to take the night cap, 6-5.

Yakima Valley was the first of three playoff teams from last year Big Bend will see in the next week. Grabbing a game from the Yaks should be a tremendous confidence builder for Big Bend as the team was swept by Yakima Valley last season.

Yakima Valley took an early lead with a run in the first inning before the Vikings stormed by to take a 2-1 lead after the fifth inning.

The Yaks responded with two more runs in the sixth inning to regain the lead and insurance run in the ninth to secure the 4-2 win.

Mitchell Darlington drove in both Big Bend runs.

Jordan Higley took the lose on the hill, but pitched a solid seven and two-thirds innings with seven strikeouts and three earned runs.

Big Bend was able to rally for a come-from-behind win in the second game.

Once again, Yakima Valley opened the scoring with two runs in the first and led 5-1 entering the sixth inning.

In danger of beginning league play 0-2, Adam Munoz stepped into the batter's box with the bases loaded a crushed a three-run double.

Munoz was able to score later in the inning on an error to tie the game at 5-5.

Munoz has been on a tear recently, knocking in nine RBI's in his last four games.

Kyle Wagner hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to complete the comeback as Big Bend hung on to win, 6-5.

Big Bend will travel to face Treasure Valley, who is tied for first in the region, today.
