Three new eateries are in the works, according to the Coeur d'Alene building permits. (That's where I get several of my leads.) Two are for fast foods - Jack-in-the-Box and Subway in the Crossroads (WinCo) shopping area, and one is for Buffalo Wild Wings (see the difference) in the north end of the Super Supplements mini-mall.

The Subway will evidently be in the west wing of the WinCo building along with as many as six other businesses, including SuperCuts.

Opening about June 1, the 1,500-square-foot space will have 34 seats at tables and booths and employ about 15 people. Open about 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, this Subway and 15 others in the region are owned by Gary Turnidge and Jerry Jensen of Spokane.

The world's biggest fast-food chain, Subway has more than 37,000 stores and 300,000 employees. Starting in 1965, its headquarters is in Milford, Conn.

Jack-in-the-Box will be its own building with a drive-through along Ramsey Road in the southwest area of the Crossroads property. Also the owner of Qdoba Mexican Grills, the Feast Foods company has more than 2,200 stores in 21 states with its headquarters in San Diego.

Buffalo Wild Wings this fall

With a possible opening of Sept. 8, Buffalo Wild Wings is more than fast food. Its menu (check www.buffalowildwings.com) is comprised of traditional and boneless chicken wings with 22 sauces, 30 "sharables" (like appetizers), salads, sandwiches, burgers, seven kids meals, desserts and beverages (maybe a full bar).

The place has a sports emphasis with major TVs and possible sponsorships. With its headquarters in Minneapolis since 1982, the company has more than 900 outlets in 49 states (sorry, Rhode Island).

Mountain Madness Soap downtown

The flagship store of Mountain Madness Soap opened this weekend at 117 S. Fourth St. in the space formerly occupied by CdA Olive Oil (now in the Silverlake area) between Marmalade and Wiggetts. The grand opening will be in May with the opening of McEuen Park.

Owners Andy and Jennifer Morsell use fresh, organic, natural and local ingredients whenever possible for bar soap, body butter, bath bombs, bubble bars, lip balms and sugar scrub cubes.

They market with more than 50 retailers and have been active in craft shows and fairs, including the Kootenai Farmers Market the last five years.
