A Kalispell man has been given a six-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty by way of Alford to felony burglary.
Charles Onthank Jr., 33, burglarized a Rose Crossing home on Sept. 8, 2013, and fled after being confronted. He was also charged with misdemeanor theft for allegedly stealing fishing poles, tackle boxes and a chain saw from two homes, but that charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
The plea agreement included a stipulation that Onthank would not be charged in connection with several other home invasions if he agreed to pay restitution to the victims.
During his sentencing hearing Thursday in Flathead District Court, he was ordered to pay a total of nearly $3,700 in restitution. He was also ordered to pay a $500 fine.
He also read a letter he had written to District Judge Heidi Ulbricht, requesting mercy from the court and saying he felt terrible for his crimes and his victims.
