Three Troy Trojans earned top-six finishes in three events at the Russ Pilcher/Western Montana Top 10 track and field meet Tuesday in Missoula.

Sean Opland earned third in the 200-meter dash (23.16 seconds) and tied for sixth in the high jump (5-11). Senior Nathan Olds tied for third in the high jump (6-3) and junior Michael Miller earned sixth in the 400-meter race (52.59).

The 16th annual event saw nine meet records either broken or tied. Helena Capital’s Kyle Nickol broke the 400-meter record by completing the race in 48.89 seconds, 0.12 second faster than Whitefish’s Anto Daoud ran in 2010. While others chipped away at record times, Butte’s Erika McLeod took a sledgehammer to the girls long jump mark. McLeod’s leap of 18-feet-6-inches improved the meet record by 13 inches.

The Troy Trojans and Libby Loggers travel Saturday to Whitefish.

Announcing Libby Loggers football games this year is a predictable endeavor. With the passing game aching from the absence of graduated All-State quarterback Jared Winslow, the Loggers are a committed ground team. Reminiscent of the era when offenses were pleased with three yards and a cloud of dust, the Loggers run game repeatedly rams the ball right into the teeth of the opposing defense.
