MOSES LAKE - Big Bend will have a new volleyball coach next season.
Longtime assistant coach Steve Duncan will take over Viking volleyball, according to Athletic Director Preston Wilks.
Duncan said it was his dream job to finally receive a head coaching opportunity after being an assistant at the high school, community college and university levels.
He has 10 years of coaching experience that includes stops at Eisenhower and West Valley high schools, Yakima Yalley Community College and Central Washington University.
During Duncan's time with Eisenhower and West Valley he was a part of five berths in the state tournament and one state championship.
He was also a member of Mario Andaya's staff when CWU made the NCAA Division II volleyball tournament as a No. 6 seed in 2012, the Wildcats' first berth in six years.
Duncan will inherit an experienced Big Bend team that will return seven players. Last season, the Vikings finished in a three-way tie for the final playoff spot in the NWAACC East region, but failed to make the postseason due to the tiebreaker situation with the other two teams.
Duncan has recently moved from Temecula, Calif. to begin the recruitment process with players scheduled to visit Big Bend's campus.
Duncan graduated from CWU in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in physical education and school health. He also received awards for leadership and academic excellence during his time at Central.
