Fashion show promises surprises

COEUR d'ALENE - There's always a surprise at the annual Kootenai County Cancer and Community Charities Fashion Show.
And this year's show promises more of the same.
"We've had people roller-skating down the ramp, we've had a huge dog accompany a model," Angela Cross, fashion show chairman, said. "You never know what's going to happen."
The 15th annual Fashion Show, which takes place May 14 at 11:30 a.m. at The Coeur d'Alene Resort, will feature 50 members of the 3Cs walking down the runway in clothing donated by local retailers.
Cross said it's one of the philanthropic organization's biggest fundraisers, adding that the big draw for the event is the models themselves.
"They are every size, shape and age you can think of," Cross said. "So people can actually look at an outfit and go, 'I can wear that,' because the models are all different shapes and sizes."
In addition to the runway show, the event will feature entertainment from the 3Cs Dancing Queens, a small silent auction, and a "Glitz and Glamour" drawing for two prizes.
"This year, there is an $800 gift certificate up for grabs from The Coeur d'Alene Resort to be used in any way the winner wishes," Cross said. "The other prize is about $800 in gift certificates from stores that participated in the show."
According to Cross, the person whose entry is drawn first is able to choose which of the two prizes they want.
All of the money raised from the show goes back into the community through the 3Cs selection of local nonprofits.
"Last year we gave $100,000 to the community," Cross said. "And we always have the desire to top last year's number the following year."
The cost to attend the fashion show is $45, and Cross said she is expecting 450 to 500 people to attend.
