The Bigfork girls swept through Lincoln County on Friday, winning a pair of tennis duals by a score of 4-2 against Troy and Libby.

The Valkyries powered through Troy on the strength of their singles, winning the top three matches including a 6-0, 6-0 win by Genovieve Gibson. Gibson and top singles player Kalia Wicklund each picked up a pair of wins in the trip.

It was Wicklund’s win against Libby that set the tone for another dual victory for the Vals. This time it was the doubles teams of Alanis Stallknecht and Brooke Bonner and Kayla Casalegno and Alauna Weilacher that carried the match. Casalegno and Weilacher won both of their matches at No. 2 doubles, each by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

The Bigfork boys weren’t quite as successful on the trip.

Troy won three of four singles matches to carry the dual with wins from Michael Goe, Dominic Chiaverni and Ben Haggerty. Gunnar Boose won at No. 3 singles and Ben Russell and George Gibson at No. 2 doubles for Bigfork.

Russell and Gibson had the only win for the Vikings against Libby, who won thier side of the dual 5-1. The pair won a tight match with Gabe Peck and Ryan Nagle 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to avoid the sweep.

Libby’s Jason Brant, Colin Maloney, Kody Bailey and Dameon Kelsch all won singles matches and the team of Jason Schnackenberg and Cody Wood won the top doubles pairing.

Both Bigfork tennis squads will take on Eureka and Superior at Eureka at 10 a.m. today.
