ANAHEIM, Calif. - When quarterback Erik Meyer, the reigning Arena Football League MVP, went down with a shoulder injury in the first half on Sunday, the Spokane Shock were left with no available quarterbacks.

Well, sort of.

Rashaad Carter, who had played quarterback in college, came in and threw two touchdown passes and ran for four more as Spokane pounded the expansion LA KISS 70-21 at the Honda Center.

Spokane (5-2) scored the game's first 28 points against the KISS (2-5). Meyer, who passed for two touchdowns and ran for one, was injured when he was sacked by former Shock linebacker Beau Bell, who slammed his right shoulder to the turf. ESPN2 commentators reported Meyer suffered a broken collarbone.

Carter came on, and threw two touchdown passes late in the first half to give Spokane a 42-14 lead at intermission. Carter threw just seven passes in the game, completing four, for the two touchdowns. He carried the ball 12 times for 46 yards and the four TDs.

The 21 points were the fewest allowed by the Shock in a game in their history. Linebacker Terance Moore led the way with six tackles and an interception, and Jeremy Geathers and James Ruffin each recorded two sacks. Ruffin is now tied with Jon Williams and Bell for the Shock single-season sack record with 8.5.

The Shock play host to the Pittsburgh Power on Friday.
