Here's why the progressives will prevail

Pro-gressive, re-gressive, or ag-gressive? Which is the real direction and tone of American politics today?
I believe all three attitudes are front and center in the minds of our elected leaders at any given moment on any given issue and is causing not only gridlock in our national political system but is bringing progress to a stand-still and even causing regression.
Look at physical infrastructure, education, manufacturing, immigration, social issues, and our bloated military and war mentality as the answer to national defense and other nations internal conflicts. We, America, have our own “internal conflicts,” and while they may not be the same in form as with Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, various African nations, Iran, Ukraine, and Syria, they are just as devastating to growth, prosperity, a healthy and vital citizenry, and a bright future.
I firmly believe that ultimately the “progressive” movements and attitudes will prevail. Why? Simply because I believe that that is basically what “We the people” really stand for, believe in, desire, and support once we get past the regressive labeling of people, in-fighting, anger and confusion.
Case in point: Polson just completed its formal two year work with Heart & Soul, a program of listening to citizens, recording hours and hours of thoughts, ideas, opinions, and actually gaining both insights and enthusiasm toward ongoing work and development in eight Community Value Themes: Vibrant Economy, Responsive & Transparent Governance, Vibrant Downtown, Appreciation of Diversity, Respect for Tradition/Heritage, Love of Natural Beauty & Active Lifestyle, Youth, and Education. This is “true America” because it is the voice of the people being heard and acted upon.
Multiply the attitudes and vision which spawned the Heart & Soul objectives and implementation across many, many communities in its various forms and our nation can truly be “America, America, God shed its light on thee.”
This is what I mean by contrasting those three words: progressive, regressive, and aggressive.

Letter: Change has to come from the people, not the government
Regardless of our political views, here are some questions in my opinion we each should think about, discuss among ourselves, and look at as we consider whether we live or die as a democracy, as an empowered nation, and as a free people.
Acting from our 'better selves'
The craziness that is going on, not only in America, but all over the world seems way beyond reason. The list is long and well known. What is important, in my opinion, is some recognition of what it is going to take to change the human condition.
Real change comes from the inside out
This morning I tuned into “Meet the Press” with Chuck Todd as the new moderator. In one segment he had invited the mayors of Pittsburg, Tacoma, and Oklahoma City to share their stories of coming from the depths of despair to vitality. One was a Democrat, one a Republican and one an Independent. Despite their political views, they each spoke with a similar attitude, focus and vision.
