EAST WENATCHEE - For about six weeks Moses Lake was unbeatable.

The Chiefs (11-1, 15-2) rattled off 15 wins in a row after losing the season opener to Mt. Spokane, 7-2, on March 18 before losing their second game of the year Friday, splitting a doubleheader against Eastmont.

"Our pitching's been solid, we just had a few hiccups on Friday," head coach Quintz Whitaker said.

Over the course of the wins streak Moses Lake jumped all the way to No. 2 in the state, behind undefeated Puyallup.

However, Whitaker is more enamored with where the team will end up at the end of the year.

"State rankings matter at the end of the season because that's when they hand out the hardware," he said.

Against Eastmont, the two games were almost mirror images of one another.

Moses Lake took the first game, 11-4, using a four-run fifth inning to create some breathing room.

Blake Springer led the Chiefs at the dish with four hits, while Ryan Pena added two hits.

Pena also drove in a game-high two runs.

Chase Tunstall threw seven innings with two strikeouts.

The script was flipped in the nightcap as this time Eastmont downed Moses Lake, 11-4, ending the Chiefs' win streak at 15 games.

Cole Raymond and Tyson Karstetter recorded two hits each. Karstetter also added two RBIs.

Depending on the outcome of Eastmont's game against Davis, Moses Lake will have an opportunity to either clinch at least a tie of the Big Nine title or the title outright with a win against Wenatchee Tuesday at home.

Tuesday's game against Wenatchee is Senior Day and first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Whitaker said it would be a great step in the right direction for Moses Lake to clinch at least a tie of the Big Nine title.

He also felt it would be nice to do it in front of the home fans on the Chiefs' home field.
