ROYAL CITY - Despite their familiarity with the Royal Golf Course and the howling Royal Slope winds, the Royal High golf team fell to Zillah and Goldendale at home last week.

"I was hoping things would continue on from the week before (victories), but our consistency problems raised their ugly head again," coach Pete Christensen said. "We have the ability to post good scores, but we can't seem to group a day together where we have multiple players shooting low scores."

The girls are getting a bit better every time they go out, the coach added. They work hard at improving, he said, and they all have improved quite a bit since the first match a month ago.

Goldendale won the boys competition with 387 strokes. Zillah had 388 and Royal 402. The medalist, at 85, was Derrick Phelps of Zillah.

Collin Christensen was low for Royal at 88. Clifford Lester and Austin Walz were next at 102. Nelson Ramirez shot 109, Carter Christensen carded 111 and Josh Solis had 116.

Lester's score was surprisingly high. He has shot in the 80s.

The score of the day was not shot by a boy. That 78 came from Bree Wanderscheid of Goldenale, which defeated Royal 383-491 with the lowest team score of the day. Zillah did not have a full girls team.

Scoring for Royal were Carley Smith, 119; Allison Joslin, 120; Lauren Pratt, 123; and Amanda Confer, 129.
