Fields helps Cardinals roll

TWIN FALLS - Hayden Fields went 2 for 4 with five RBIs, including a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the third-seed North Idaho College softball team past the sixth-seeded Western Nevada Wildcats 10-6 in the opening round of the Region 18 tournament on Wednesday on the campus of the College of Southern Idaho.

NIC (36-20) will face second-seeded Salt Lake (34-19) today at 1:30 p.m. PDT, for a berth in the semifinals.

Madison Anthony drove in three runs, hitting a leadoff home run in the third inning for NIC.

Western Nevada (12-44) will face Colorado Northwestern (8-46) in a loser-out game today.
