The Glacier National Park Volunteer Associates annual Volunteer Day will begin Saturday, May 17, with a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the Community Center in West Glacier. A short meeting will follow, and the volunteer work will start about 9:30 a.m.
This year, volunteer efforts will center on the native plant nursery, carpentry shop and the grounds around the new Visitor Center at the Transit Center. Participants may also sign-up for other volunteer opportunities taking place in Glacier Park later in the season. Everyone is welcome. Volunteers are advised to bring a lunch if planning to spend the day.
The Volunteer Associates is a non-profit park partner that focuses on volunteerism in Glacier Park. Last year, members contributed more than 6,700 volunteer hours, which translates into more than $140,000 in in-kind labor.
In 2013, GNPVA was awarded the Jack Potter Glacier National Park Stewardship Award, presented by Headwaters Montana, for their commitment to the stewardship and protection of Glacier Park’s natural resources.
