MOSES LAKE - A Snohomish man allegedly driving a stolen vehicle left the scene of a crash on Interstate 90 near Moses Lake and was later reportedly caught breaking into vehicles at a Moses Lake truck stop.

About 7 p.m., Jered L. Vandenbosch, 21, was driving west on I-90 about 10 miles east of Moses Lake when he struck the rear of a 2008 Cadillac STS, causing both vehicles to roll off the road. Vandenbosch, was allegedly driving a stolen car out of Spokane and ran from the scene on foot, according to the State Patrol.

Both people in the Cadillac, Gloria M. Rodriguez, 66, and Olga M. Hernandez, both of Moses Lake, were injured in the crash. Rodriguez was transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. Hernandez was initially transported to Samaritan and then airlifted by MedStar to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

About two hours later, Moses Lake police received a report from witnesses of a man, identified as Vandenbosch, allegedly breaking into vehicles at Ernie's Truck Stop on Kittleson Road. He reportedly broke into at least two vehicles and attempted to break into two more and steal another before he was apprehended.

Police believe Vandenbosch was also involved with stealing juice and chips at the Hilltop Conoco on Kittleson earlier in the day, according to Moses Lake Police Chief Dave Ruffin. Ruffin said he appreciated the assistance from residents whose information led to Vandenbosch's arrest.

Vandenbosch was booked into Grant County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, possession of a stolen vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree vehicle prowl, two counts of first-degree attempted vehicle prowl and three counts of second-degree theft.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash on Interstate 90. The official cause of the crash is under investigation, according to the State Patrol.
