Re: John Gillmore’s May 4 “Readers Write” letter in the Coeur d’Alene Press:

Three words in reply to Mr. Gillmore’s letter — very well put. I am very confident that your opinion is shared by many other people — myself included.

And speaking of other people, I also read the letter John responded to. I won’t mention the writer’s name; however, I will mention that my definition of the term “people” is “kind, courteous, compassionate law-abiding citizens.” Anyone who falls outside of that realm (especially compassionate in this case) are nothing less than idiots, imbeciles and morons. That, as well, is “just one man’s opinion.”

It is also just one man’s opinion that only an idiot, imbecile or moron would criticize someone less fortunate, especially if he/she is totally clueless about what it’s like to be homeless or down on your luck. I, for one, have been down on my luck at times, not to mention having been homeless. Fortunately, there was a free service, “St. Vincent de Paul,” who offered assistance to my family and I until I got back on my feet when the rest of the world seemed to turn its back.

That’s why I’m proud to live in a town, as well as a country, that helps those in need. Anyone else who feels otherwise should live on a small island or the South Pole as John put it — or in another country for that matter.

As for the “person” in question, my advice to you is to go down to one of these “free help centers” and donate some money, time, food or work if you’re up for it — especially the work part. Not only will it make you feel good, but it may just give you a little redemption. After all, life has many twists and turns, so you could be the next one making a little trip to St. Vincent de Paul for some assistance. Just take it from someone with experience.

Thank you, John, for setting the record straight.
