Chiefs miss out on co-league title

MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake (6-4, 9-6) was unable to take advantage of a chance at a co-league championship.
The Chiefs hosted Sunnyside in their regular season finale with a chance to even the two teams' league records with a win.
Sean Cotton put Moses Lake ahead 1-0 in the 34th minute and the Chiefs entered intermission ahead. However, the Grizzlies scored three unanswered goals in the second half and Moses Lake fell, 3-2.
Sunnyside evened the match early in the second half with a goal by Lupe Granados. Granados gave the Grizzlies their first lead after punching home a penalty kick in the 58th minute.
Despite losing two out of its final three matches, Moses Lake will have the No. 1 seed in the district tournament and host Wenatchee Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Chiefs took both meetings with the Panthers, 3-2 on the road and 2-0 at home.
A win Tuesday would give Moses Lake the district championship and a berth in the state tournament.
A loss would force the Chiefs into a loser out match May 17 against the winner of the Davis-Eastmont match.
