COEUR d'ALENE - The arraignment for CoiNuts owner-operator Kevin E. Mitchell has been moved to July 16.

Mitchell, 48, was scheduled to be arraigned Monday in 1st District Court in Kootenai County on a felony charge of grand theft by false promise.

He appeared for the arraignment, but his public defender, Linda J. Payne, requested a delay so she could review discovery materials.

Payne told Judge Fred Gibler she had received approximately 6,000 pages of material, and has more on the way.

"So this case is going to take us a while," Payne told Gibler.

Mitchell's stepdaughter, Sarah M. Mitchell, 31, was arraigned Monday. She remained silent and Gibler entered a not guilty plea for her.

She is charged with theft by false promise, and is being represented by public defender Jed Nixon.

She worked at the coin shop when it was open at 296 W. Sunset Ave., just off U.S. 95.

Grand jury indictments against the codefendants say they allegedly schemed to defraud customers.

Separately, the Idaho Attorney General's Office has an ongoing lawsuit against Kevin Mitchell for alleged Consumer Protection Act violations relating to his operation of CoiNuts.
