A trio of teens were arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing a vehicle and leading police on a chase through the southeast corner of Kalispell.

According to Patrol Captain Tim Falkner, Kalispell police officers responded to the area of Fifth Avenue East at 1:25 a.m. after a resident of the 1700 block reported he heard his front door closing and then, while he was investigating that noise, heard his vehicle unlock in the driveway. He then saw someone leaving in the vehicle.

Officers located and attempted to stop the vehicle — a white 2008 Jeep Liberty — near Dry Bridge Park, but the driver kept going, leading the officers on a pursuit along South Woodland Drive at speeds of up to 65 miles per hour. The chase ended at an apartment complex just off Kelly Road.

When the vehicle stopped, all three occupants fled on foot. Officers apprehended two of them immediately, while the third suspect was not located and arrested until later in the day. The boys are between the ages of 13 and 16.

Charges of felony burglary and felony motor vehicle theft as well as eluding a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving and driving with no driver’s license have been filed with Flathead County Youth Court Services.

Dispatch logs indicate two of the boys had been the focus of at least three prior calls to Kalispell police over a span of five days.

One of the boys was picked up on U.S. 93 South last Thursday while reported as a runaway, and was taken to the police department by the driver and released to his father.

The boy escaped from his father less than two hours later after talking about meeting up with a friend who was among the three arrested on Tuesday.

The pair were later reported for allegedly breaking into a 13th Street East home on Monday. An officer responded but was unable to locate the boys.
