Learning has been going on within Winton Elementary's red brick walls for 89 years, but this is the last year it will take place in the old building on LaCrosse Avenue.

All students and teachers are invited back to Winton this weekend for one last trip down memory lane before the old schoolhouse is replaced with a new one.

An All Years Class Reunion will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the LaCrosse Avenue school, and anyone with a Winton connection is welcome to attend.

Construction of the new school is slated to take place over the next year, with classes scheduled to resume in the new building in the fall of 2015. While construction is taking place, Winton's staff and students will be relocated to Hayden Elementary. KinderCenter students will return to their home schools for the next school year.

Winton teachers say this last year in the building has been emotional and exciting. They hope the educators and students who came before them will attend the reunion, tour the school, and share their memories with Winton's current students.

Those who attend the reunion will have the opportunity to write down a memory, or share a piece of history - an old report card or class picture - for a time capsule that will be placed in the new building.

This time capsule will be opened every 10 years so children can read about the history of their school and add their own messages to be read by students in another 10 years.

There will be coffee, refreshments and entertainment provided by the current students.

Winton's Parent Teacher Association is starting a booster club to collect donations for additional needs the new school may have. Donors will be recognized for their contributions on a plaque at the school.

Those unable to attend the reunion are asked to send a short letter with a few memories and a donation, if they wish to join the booster club, to: Winton Elementary, 920 LaCrosse Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814.
