With more than $60,000 in campaign funds raised, Sen. John Goedde leads local candidates in the amount of money collected for the May 20 primary.
The 7-day, pre-primary campaign finance reporting deadline was 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The incumbent for the District 4 Idaho Senate seat, Goedde, R-Coeur d'Alene, reported $22,975 in contributions. He also had a beginning cash balance of $38,648, putting his total campaign finances at more than $60,000.
"I'm the longest-serving legislator from Kootenai County, so people have had a chance to see me operate," said Goedde, who has served for 14 years. "I've gotten broad-based support because of that."
Goedde said while the financial support is nice and helps, it doesn't guarantee a victory.
"The bottom line is who comes to the polls," he said. "While funding helps with advertising and makes people aware of you, it doesn't guarantee you'll be supported (at the polls)."
