COEUR d'ALENE - Attendees at North Idaho College's booster club luncheon on Tuesday received some breaking news - Kelsey Stanley was announced as coach of the NIC volleyball team.
Stanley has been the team's assistant coach for two years and interim coach since January.
"Kelsey has done an excellent job as the interim head coach and earned a chance to guide our volleyball team," NIC athletic director Al Williams said. "She gained valuable experience as an assistant coach and understands the needs and expectations of our program. I believe she will be a nice addition to our head coaching staff."
Stanley replaces Myles Kydd, whose contract was not renewed after one season. Stanley will be NIC's fifth head coach in six seasons.
Stanley attended Bottineau High in North Dakota, where she earned all-state honors in volleyball and was a state pole vault champion. In 2006, she was named North Dakota Athlete of the Year.
At Dickinson State, she became a six-time NAIA All-American in track and field and four-time national pole vault champion.
Her husband Keri, is the assistant wrestling coach at NIC.
