Ballet Cd'A topresent spring performance

Ballet Coeur d'Alene will present its annual spring performance May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at North Idaho College's Schuler Auditorium.
Young students from the dance school will perform several ballets featuring original choreography by Ballet Coeur d'Alene Artistic Director Brooke Nicholson.

Lessons about truth and life will be danced in contemporary costumes in "Adalia," a world premiere composition inspired by the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Fairy Tell True" and written for Ballet Coeur d'Alene by Matthew Pierce. Pierce has composed scores for ballet companies throughout the nation, including San Francisco Ballet, Washington Ballet and Houston Ballet.
The "Carnival of the Animals" will offer the audience a whimsical showcase of Ballet Coeur d'Alene's students' talents.
Young dancers featured in the production have recently earned recognition for their talents: Rayna Solberg, Coeur d'Alene's 2015 Distinguished Young Woman; Klaire Mitchell, who just took gold in her dance division in the Northwest Musicfest competition in Spokane; Chelsea Thronson who also took gold at Northwest Musicfest; and Elliana Kirk, Maggie Hurst and Alicia Katori who each also won their dance divisions at the Musicfest competition.
Nicholson is a former professional ballerina who performed with the Boston Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, New York City Ballet and Smuin Ballet. She has been dancing for 28 years, and teaching dance for 16.
