Norway's bicentennial will be celebrated on Saturday in Post Falls.
The May 17 celebration marks the bicentennial of Norway's constitution, which was finalized in May 1814.
The activities start at 10 a.m. with a breakfast at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows hall on Railroad Avenue.
The breakfast will feature home-baked breads, crackers, meats, cheeses, pickled herring, pastries, lefse and more. There will be entertainment showcasing Norwegian heritage.
Rod Erickson, known for his yodeling and singing folk and sentimental songs, will perform.
The Bressler Trio, comprised of college graduates Solina and Jarin, and their mother, Ina, will sing popular and contemporary tunes.
The cost of the breakfast is $6. Call 765-0714 or 667-3250 to see if there is still space available.
After the breakfast, attendees will walk or drive to Falls Park, three blocks from the hall, around 11:15 a.m. A flag-raising ceremony will be held at 11:45 a.m.
Sons of Norway, which was chartered in Coeur d'Alene in 1910 and meets at the Post Falls Odd Fellows hall, has celebrated Norway's Constitution Day with a flag ceremony at Falls Park for more than a decade.
Post Falls City Councilwoman Kerri Thoreson will present a proclamation from the city during the ceremony.
To honor Norway's constitution, modeled after those of the U.S. and France, the national anthems of the U.S. and Norway will be sung. Another tradition is the reading of the poem "Two Flags" by Rosanna Johnsrud.
The public is invited to the ceremony.
