NAMPA - There wasn't just one guy that put the Lakeland Hawks into the state 4A championship game later today at Rodeo Park.

It was all of them.

Trailing 10-4 after the top of the third inning, Lakeland closed the door on Skyview, outscoring the Nampa squad 12-0 the rest of the way for a 16-10 win in the state 4A tournament semfinals and move onto the school's first state championship game since the 1997 season, when the Hawks were in the A-2 (3A) classification.

Lakeland (16-7), which won state titles in '96 and '97, will face Twin Falls for the 4A title today at 3 p.m. PDT.

"I told my team that with a game like tonight, the way we competed and never gave up, then there's no reason to come all this way and stop now," Lakeland coach Jason Bradbury said. "We will be ready tomorrow, and I couldn't think of a better team to be there with than this one. It's something special."

Kody Graves hit a grand slam in the third for Skyview, which also scored five in the first inning.

"Right there, I thought that most teams would probably fold," Bradbury said. "But not for one minute did I, or the team, give up. This game was the best baseball game that I have ever been a part of."

Six of the 10 Lakeland hitters drove in two runs each in the win.

"My whole team had such determination, grit, willpower and just flat out got the job done," Bradbury said. "Every single person in the lineup contributed huge to either timely hitting and great defense. It was the best team win I have ever seen and I give my players all the credit. There was not one guy in the lineup that ever gave up."

BOISE - The record-setting season of the Vikings came to an abrupt end at Memorial Stadium as Coeur d'Alene fell to the Rams of Pocatello in a loser-out game in the state 5A tournament.

"It was a disappointing end to a really good season," Coeur d'Alene coach Nick Rook said. "We did a lot of good things and won a lot of games."

Dylan Manning hit a two-run single to left field to give the Rams a 3-0 lead in second inning.

Kolby DeHaas hit a two-out RBI double to put Coeur d'Alene on the scoreboard at 4-1 after three innings.

Shawn Montee scored in the bottom of the fifth on a dropped third strike and Jonny Plum scored on a fielder's choice as Coeur d'Alene closed to within 4-3 after five.

Coeur d'Alene got the tying run to third in the seventh, but was unable to push the run across.

Aaron Pope struck out seven for Highland (23-3), which faces Lewiston (17-10) in the consolation championship game today at 9 a.m. PDT.

"That Pope kid is a good pitcher and made some pitches when he needed to," Rook said. "At the end, it's a couple of plays here and there."

Coeur d'Alene, the state runner-up last year hit a school-record 27 home runs this year.

"This senior class did a lot of good things the last three years," Rook said.

FRUITLAND - Bryce Johnson hit a key two-run single in the top of the eighth inning, helping the Tigers beat the Trojans in a loser-out game at the state 3A tournament at Fruitland High.

"It was a group of kids that just didn't want to be done playing baseball yet," Timberlake coach Bill Rider said.

Homedale led 5-2 after three innings, but Timberlake rallied to score seven of its runs in the final three innings.

"Early on, we were hitting the ball right at everyone," Rider said. "Of the first six outs, five were hard-hit balls. Finally at the end of the game, we were still hitting it at people, but were finding some holes and scoring some runs."

Mason Cramer struck out six in 6 2/3 innings and scored three runs for Timberlake (16-9), which faces Teton (13-10) in the consolation championship game today at 9 a.m. PDT. The Tigers won the consolation title last year.

"Mason was a bulldog for us today," Rider said. "He was awesome and had an exceptional game. I looked at him after the fifth inning (down 5-2) and he said he was going back out, and that was it. Hopefully we can bring home a trophy. We found a way to do it last year, but need to find a way to do it again."

Jacob Falls had three hits for Homedale, which finishes 13-13.

OROFINO - St. Maries managed just three hits for the second straight day, and was eliminated by the Dragons (20-3) in consolation play at the state 2A tournament at Orofino High.

The Lumberjacks scored their lone run of the tourney in the top of the second inning. Bryant Asbury singled in Tyson Truscott to cut Malad's lead down to 2-1.

The Dragons scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking advantage of a leadoff walk, a single and two doubles.

"It was a close game," St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. "Then they put some distance between us and them and we were unable to get anything going offensively today."

The Lumberjacks finished the season at 15-6.

"We had a great season," Tefft said. "We thought we'd have a better tournament run than we did. Our bats got cold at the wrong time of the year. We pitched and played good defense throughout the year."
