RONAN — Ronan’s school board voted unanimously Thursday to rehire Steve Woll as the high school’s boys basketball coach Monday, less than two months after he had not been recommended for rehire by the school’s administration.

The Leader reported March 25 that Woll would not be recommended for rehire. Supporters of the coach turned out in droves at the next school board meeting claiming that the district had not followed correct protocol by not taking public comment before deciding not to recommend the coach for rehire.

Ronan’s activities handbook states that “[t]he School Board [sic] will consider the evaluation and input from the public prior to renewal/non-renewal” of a head coach’s contract.

Woll said he is just happy to be back on the bench next season and that he is “ready to move forward.”
