"Fine dining in an intimate atmosphere" is the theme of Theodore's at the Roosevelt. This new restaurant is planning to open this week in the Roosevelt Inn boutique hotel at 105 E. Wallace Ave. (in the northwest corner of downtown).

Reservations are recommended for the muraled upper rooms with seating for 18-20 people at six tables. The menu includes appetizers, soups, salads, entrees of duck breast, smoked steelhead and top sirloin and three desserts.

The experimental "no complaints" opening is Wednesday and Thursday, and the genuine opening is Friday. Hours are 5-9:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Phone 620-9060. Rooms also have been renovated. Check www.therooseveltinn.com.

Cd'A Souvenir & Sundry opens Thursday

Almost anything anyone would want for the beach, lake and to remember North Idaho will be available at Coeur d'Alene Souvenir & Sundry opening Thursday in Suite 104 at 412 E. Sherman Ave.

Snacks, drinks and small "drug store" items are available as well as North Idaho-made items. The back door of the shop opens onto the new McEuen Park. Owners Laurie and David Jaeger were raised here and have many years of business experience, including Laurie making cotton candy at what was long ago downtown's Playland Pier. A special item is a 1948 Lake Coeur d'Alene map.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and longer during events. Phone 659-0045. Check www.cdasouvenir.com.

Lake City Cakes opens Thursday

Custom cakes and baked treats for any occasion are offered at Lake City Cakes at 233 W. Dalton Ave. The grand opening is noon to 5 p.m. Thursday with free treats and prize drawing signups available at the drive-through.

The mother-daughter team of Laurie Bailey and Andria Howes combine for 30 years of baking and decorating experience. Regular hours will open at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, and Saturdays they're at the Farmers Market. Phone 651-3311. Check www.lakecitycakes.com.

Scotty's Auto Body/RV on Seltice

Restoring vehicles and collision repair are the specialties of Scott Shawver in the new Scotty's Auto Body & RV at 2915 E. Seltice Way, Post Falls. With 30 years in the industry, Shawver has won several prizes for his work. The shop also has a 60-foot heated spray booth for full-body RV and custom car painting and work.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Phone 457-4040.

Now for the Tidbits

- New places to watch for (and our details later) include Mattress Firm, Uva Trattoria Restaurant, Downburst Brewing, Animal Medical Center, the Well-Read Moose, Metanoia Hot Yoga, Stylebar, a new home for Fortus Realty, and One Good Thread.

- All the digging on the large parcel east of Crossroads (Winco) will be apartments similar to the ones in Riverstone.

- Misuse of plural numbers occurred three times in five minutes during the news and ads on a local TV station. They put apostrophes in "highs in the 70's, costs in the 1000's and the 50's Cafe." None of these are possessive; they're just plural.

- The label on Sainsbury's Peanuts includes "Warning - Contains nuts."

- Those who get too big for their pants will get exposed in the end.
