Police in Coeur d’Alene are on the lookout for a man suspected of attempting to lure a 3-year-old boy into a van. The suspect is described as white, approximately 40, with long brown, wavy hair. He is about 5 feet 6 inches tall, 110 pounds and was wearing a blue baseball cap, white T-shirt and gray jeans.

A W. Fairway Drive mother called police at 6 p.m. Saturday to report the presence of the suspicious man near her residence, for the second time in less than a week.

The woman told investigators she recently noticed the vehicle the suspect drives, a white 1989 GMC Savana van, Idaho plate K527792 parked near her home.

She said she observed the man walking on her property on May 12, while her 3-year-old son was playing outside. The man reportedly asked her child to come to his van and help him with his dog. The mother said she noticed the man speaking to her child and confronted him. He began to walk back toward his car, and told her he needed a jump start. The woman told him to leave her property. She said the suspect then left the area.

She noticed the van parked near her property again on Saturday, when her 7-year-old and 5-year-old sons were outside playing with their younger brother. The mother said she walked to the van and asked the man why he was in the area. She told police he said he comes to the area to “tie” his dogs.

She told him she was going to call the police. The man told her he just got out of jail and did not want her to call, and left the area.

Investigators followed up on the license plate of the van, and have determined the vehicle is not in the possession of the registered owner.
