ADAMS COUNTY - Just two of the 10 offices open for election in Adams County will be contested in November's general election.
Three candidates, including incumbent Jeff Stevens, filed last week for county commissioner in District 3. Jessie Dominguez and former Othello city councilwoman Eleanor Brodahl, the lone Democrat running in Adams County, also filed. All three candidates are from Othello and will be on the Aug. 5 primary ballot, with the top-two vote getters moving on to the general election, which is Nov. 4. Friday was the last day for candidates to file.
Current Ritzville District Court Judge Adalia A. Hille, of Ritzville, is seeking reelection against Carolyn J. Benzel, also of Ritzville. Gary Brueher has filed for re-election in the Othello District Court Judge position. Adams Superior Court Judge Position 1 Steve Dixon is also seeking another two-year term.
Sheriff John Hunt, who was appointed after the retirement of longtime Sheriff Doug Barger, is running unopposed to serve his first four-year term.
Incumbents Sherri L. Brewer, assessor, Heidi K. Hunt, auditor, Susan K. Kirkendall, clerk, and Treasurer Laura Danekas are running unopposed.
Primary election ballots will be mailed beginning July 16. More information on the candidates and the upcoming election can be found on the county website at www.co.adams.wa.us under the "Elections" section.
