COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889, along with Boy Scout Troop 3, will be placing flags on military headstones in Forest and Riverview cemeteries at 5 p.m. this Friday.

The public is invited to attend and help place these flags, to make sure they are placed by the headstones of family members who were veterans. The VFW members and Scouts wish to remember all of America's veterans during the Memorial Day weekend.

Many times, headstones are missed simply because there is no way for the people placing the flags to know that a veteran is interred there. All they can go by is the military headstones. It is possible to receive medallions that indicate that the buried person is a veteran and these medallions can be placed on the headstone. The medallions are free and are furnished by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

For information about the medallions, contact VFW Post 889 at 667-5236, visit the Facebook page for VFW Post 889 or go online to www.va.gov/vaforms/va/pdf/VA40-1330M.pdf.
