French farce 'Boeing Boeing' offers cabaret-style fun

In intimate cabaret style, the Whitefish Theatre Co. closes its 2013-2014 theater season with a production of “Boeing Boeing” at the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
This hilarious, zany comedy opens with a sneak preview night on May 28 at 7:30 p.m. Performances continue May 29-31 and June 5-7 at 7:30 p.m.
“Boeing Boeing” is a 1960s French farce that features a glamour-boy architect named Bernard who simultaneously juggles Italian, German and American fiancées, each beautiful airline hostesses. Tracking their airlines' timetables and scheduling non-convergent “layovers”, Bernard keeps “one up, one down and one pending” until an unexpected guest and the introduction of a speedier Boeing jet bring all three to Paris and his apartment at the same time.
“Boeing Boeing” is a side-splitting unraveling of Bernard's careful romantic planning that, according to The New York Times, “soars right out of its time zone and into some unpolluted stratosphere of classic physical comedy”.
“This French farce first hit the stage in 1965 and was revamped in 2008 to win a Tony Award for Best Revival,” director Gail Cleveland said. “It is truly a delicious, deliriously fun romp with stereotypical stewardesses, a grumbling French maid, an overly confident philanderer and action propelled by a visit from his innocent, slightly nerdy, friend from America.”
As Ben Brantley of The New York Times said of the production, it "levitates low burlesque into high comedy."
The production features David Blair as Bernard, Adam Pitman as Robert, Erin Grayce as Bertha, and Katie Nixon, Jenna Kubiak, and Kim Krueger as airline hostesses Gloria, Gabrielle, and Gretchen.
Tickets are $20 for reserved table or mezzanine seating with food and wine available for purchase. Tickets for the sneak preview performance on May 28 are $10 sold only at the door.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office, 1 Central Ave., Whitefish, or by calling 862-5371. Box office hours are from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and one hour before performance times. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.whitefishtheatreco.org.
