Part adventure, part family drama, part philosophical musing, the Wolfpack Theatre Company will present Truman Capote’s “The Grass Harp” May 22-24 at 6:33 p.m. in the Wolfpack Theatre at Glacier High School.

“The Grass Harp” is a thoughtful account of the discovery of love, self, and truth through the eyes of a retired judge, a teenage boy and his aunts.

In the 1930s, teenage orphan Collin Fenwick lives with his aging, unmarried aunts, Dolly and Verena. When Verena tries to force Dolly to give the recipe for her herbal Dropsy medicine to a shifty pharmacist, Dolly, Collin and Catherine, the family servant, run away from home and seek refuge from life’s troubles in a tree house nestled in the nearby woods.

As this trio takes up residence in the tree house other members of the community begin to join them until a local search party is formed to seek out the lost and return them to “civilization.”

“‘The Grass Harp’ is gentle, amusing and full of Southern charm. The wonderful theme is the idea that everyone, including eccentric dreamers, deserves to find that special place in the world where they can truly be themselves, and a special someone with whom to share it,” director Marcy Maroney said.

To help the story flow and unfold for the audience, Maroney has cast a trio of musicians Christian Diaz on violin, Rebeccah Ames on flute and Micah Meadors on cello to play throughout the production, as well as provide all sound effects.

Chris Adamcyk’s Theatre Arts classes have also constructed an enormous tree and tree house in the Wolfpack Theatre on which most of the action takes place.

The cast of “The Grass Harp” includes Ben Habel, Riley Wilton, Rebecca Konen, Trey Sheilds, Rachel Bjork, Dylan Gibson, Maddy Rigg, Hannah Tullett, Anika Fritz, Ian Wheeler, Jacob Wutke, Jessica Mount, Francis Loviska, Erick Franklund, , Mikayla Wilson, Alec Willis, Joey O’Myer and Nathan MacGregor.

Supporting the cast from behind the scenes, Josie Jolly, Kaleb Turner, Gracey Ortel, Hannah Halbur, Sarah Stratton, Nilla Swenson, Aleesha Hillis, Abi Vanorny, Adam Younger, Elise Byle and Ruben Castren make up the lighting and stage crew.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children, students and senior citizens and are available at the GHS Main Office and Photo Video Plus.
