C-Falls girls, Whitefish boys 1st-day leaders at Northwestern A divisional track

FRENCHTOWN — Carla Nicosia won the 100 hurdles (15.66) and turned in the winning distance in the triple jump (35-4 3/4), Samantha Mundel took first place in the 1,600 (5:24.24) and Andrea Getts had the winning toss in the discus (115-10) as Columbia Falls dominated opening-day action at the Northwestern A divisional track meet on Friday.

The Wildkats, with 85 points, hold down the top spot in the team standings. Whitefish, 64, is second and Polson, 53, is third.

Whitefish’s Marlow Schulz won the 400 (57.06) and Polson’s Claudia Hewston took first place in the pole vault (9-0).

Polson had the best time in the 400 relay with Tiara Duford, Chadelle Smith, Erica Alfiero and Lydia Bowman.

The Whitefish boys, led by individual winners Luke Cardon in the 400 (52.56), Keaton Grove in the 110 hurdles (15.03) and Sean Foley in the pole vault (13-0), tallied 83 points to hold down the team lead after the first day.

Cardon, Grove, Foley and Koler Kanistanaux were on Whitefish’s winning 400 relay team.

Polson, 62, is second and Columbia Falls, 45, third.

Columbia Falls had two individual winners — James Ratzlaff in the 1,600 (4:45.62) and Nakia Alexander in the triple jump (43-5 1/4).

Polson’s Austin Corrigan won the discus (141-2).
