Love is in the air.

It is also written on paper, and will be read aloud when Ellen Travolta and Jack Bannon perform A.R. Gurney's "Love Letters" May 29-31 at Lake City Playhouse.

Four performances will benefit the playhouse and the Coeur d'Alene Public Library.

"What a great way to support that fabulous library and the amazing community theater and have a nice night," Travolta said.

"Love Letters" is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, they create something evocative, touching and frequently funny.

George Green, Lake City Playhouse executive artistic director, said he considers it an honor to have the couple, area residents and longtime patrons of the theater, performing at the playhouse.

"To actually see them performing such a great piece of theater on our stage will be a night to be remembered," Green said. "LCP has accomplished many milestones in recent years. This, for me, will be an emotional highlight."

Coeur d'Alene Public Library Foundation Executive Director Ruth Pratt said the foundation is looking forward to collaborating with the playhouse on "this very special fundraiser."

"We are thrilled that Ellen Travolta and Jack Bannon are generously contributing their time and prodigious talents to help support our two nonprofit organizations," Pratt said.

Travolta said she and her husband, Bannon, sat down a few months ago and decided they wanted to find some new organizations to support.

"Both the library foundation and LCP are wonderful representations of what our community has to offer," Travolta said.

"Love Letters" will be performed May 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m., and May 31 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at Lake City Playhouse, 1320 E. Garden Ave., Coeur d'Alene.

Tickets are on sale now for $25 and can be purchased by phone, (208) 667-1323 or online at www.lakecityplayhouse.org.
