A butterfly release on June 1 will honor cancer survivors and recognize a local organization working to support those affected by cancer.

Flathead Cancer Aid Services will sponsor the local observance of Wings of Hope, a National Cancer Survivor’s Day celebration. Butterfly-release events will be at The Raven Restaurant on Woods Bay in Bigfork, and at Angie’s Greenhouse on U.S. 2 West in Columbia Falls. Both are open to the public and scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m., weather permitting.

Flathead Cancer Aid Services organizers will release more than 300 Monarch and Painted Lady butterflies into the skies over Flathead Lake. Along with this, they will create a relaxed, fun atmosphere with music, ice cream and raffle items.

The public can participate in the June 1 butterfly release by attending the events, and by becoming sponsors of the event. Formed in 2012, Flathead Cancer Aid Services is a nonprofit providing financial aid and support to local cancer patients and their families.
