Getts takes 4th in state tennis

Sophomore Emily Getts took fourth at the state Class A tennis tournament last week. Getts lost to Brandy Lambourne of Havre in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 in the May 24 tourney in Billings.
Getts opened the series by beating Annie Hill of Glendive, 6-1, 6-1 and then dropped Roxy Rademacher of Corvallis in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-0. But she fell to Barclay Fagg of Billings Central 6-1, 6-0.
“Emily represented Columbia Falls well at the tournament,” girls coach Jerry Smalley said.
On the boys side, Gavin Thelen opened the tourney with a loss to John Potenberg of Livingston, 6-3, 6-1 and then lost to Jory Opp of Glendive 6-1, 6-1 to end his high school career.
In doubles, Mason Gedlaman and Caleb Baumann opened the tourney with a win, dropping Kale Guldseth and Tyler Trudnowski of Butte Central, 6-1, 6-2. But then they lost to Dennis Berg and Gavin McPherson of Glendive, 6-1, 7-5.
In the consolation bracket, Gedlaman and Baumann beat Colton Belcourt and Joseph Fecteau of Stevensville in a marathon match, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), but lost to divisional foes Dylan McCrumb and Layne Zimmerman of Polson, 6-3, 6-2.
