Virtual graduation in the real world
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 years, 7 months AGO
Tonight, 25 seniors in the Coeur d'Alene area who have attended the Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA) will graduate from high school.
The 6 p.m. graduation ceremony will be held at the Kroc Center. These students have attended school full-time, online.
Ryan Davis, IDVA outreach pointed out just how unique this graduation will be.
"This isn't a graduation day that is full of goodbyes," he said. "It's full of hellos! Many of these students haven't met before and graduation provides them the opportunity to celebrate together and meet face-to-face."
Around the state, a total of 160 students are graduating from IDVA.
It will be interesting to follow up with the class of 2014's first class reunion in 2024, will it be real world or in cyberspace? Congratulations to all! Check it out at: www.k12.com/idva.
Through the weekend you have the chance to experience a stage reading of "Love Letters" by two extraordinary actors, Ellen Travolta and Jack Bannon. I've become a fan of the stage reading genre thanks to Ellen, Jack, Dennis Franz and Patty Duke.
Twice in the past few years I was enthralled, first with "Bits and Pieces" at the Coeur d'Alene Library and then at Schuyler Auditorium for "Over the River." There's an intimacy to the readings not found in stage plays. It's great writing and great acting in pure form.
We're so fortunate to have generous and gifted thespians in our midst. Thursday through Saturday performances of "Love Letters" will benefit the Lake City Playhouse and the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Foundation. Tickets are available by calling 667-1323 or visiting info@lakecityplayhouse.org.
The fourth annual Leashes & Laces 5K Fun Run/Walk is coming Sunday to the Greyhound Park and Event Center to benefit the Post Falls Police Department K-9 Units. Dogs and their people are invited to participate in this fun event, which includes a K-9 demonstration and a best-dressed dog contest. Me and my Yorkie, Miss Annie, will be serving as judges again this year. Go to postfallspolice.com for info and entry forms.
