SHOOTING
Lake City team, Mathes win state titles: On May 16-17, 72 youth shooters from the state of Idaho gathered at the Coeur d'Alene Skeet and Trap club in Hayden for the 2014 Idaho State Shoot. At least 50 kids (ages 8-18) from southern Idaho joined with local high school and college shooters to compete in three shooting disciplines. Each youth shot 100 clay targets in trap and skeet at our local club and an additional 100 sporting clay targets at Double Barrel Ranch in Harvard, Wash.
The youths were placed in divisions based on age and experience. Awards were given in each discipline to the top three male/female shooters from each division as well as the top three teams and high overall male/female.
The Lake City High School shooting team took first place, with the Coeur d'Alene junior team taking second and the Coeur d'Alene High School Vikings gathering third.
The top individual of the tournament was sophomore Demitry Mathes, a local home-schooled student who shoots with the Lake City High School team. Demitry's combined score of 274 out of 300 was enough to earn him the high overall male and high score of the event.
