HELENA — The deaths of two people found at a rural residence near Superior appear to be a murder-suicide.

The state Justice Department says the bodies of 87-year-old Emma Lane and her 85-year-old husband John Lane were found at their residence at mid-day Wednesday after an out-of-state relative asked a neighbor to check on them.

Officers with the Division of Criminal Investigation and Mineral County authorities determined Emma Lane died of a single gunshot wound and John Lane shot himself.

The shooting remains under investigation.
