SPIRIT LAKE - Josh Lampert carried the ball 17 times for 117 yards and had a 13-yard touchdown reception as the Timberlake Tigers defeated the Payette Pirates 35-21 in the opening round of the state 3A playoffs on Saturday at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.
Timberlake (8-1) will face Fruitland (7-2) next weekend in the quarterfinals in Spirit Lake.
Ryan Starr completed 3 of 4 passes for 87 yards, all resulting in touchdowns for Timberlake.

NEW PLYMOUTH - Host New Plymouth had a game-tying drive stopped on an interception with three minutes remaining as the Lumberjacks beat the Pilgrims in the state 2A playoff opening round.
St. Maries took a 30-22 halftime lead as Kiefer Gibson connected with Logan Feasline on touchdown passes of 23- and 35-yards. Chase Truscott scored on a 1-yard run to give the Lumberjacks a 24-14 lead after falling behind 14-0 in the first quarter.
It is St. Maries' first playoff win since 1987.
Feasline also ran for a 63-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for St. Maries (6-3), which faces Orofino (8-1) in the quarterfinals next weekend.

KELLOGG - The host Wildcats had a rough day offensively as junior quarterback Dominic Easley threw five interceptions en route to a 27-7 loss to the Homedale Trojans in the opening round of the state 3A playoffs at Teeters Field.
Easley would finish with just 57 yards passing as the offense struggled to get anything going.
"We couldn't get anything going on offense and the turnovers during the game really hurt us," Kellogg coach Tyrel Hendrix said. "Our defense stepped up in the second half, giving us a chance but we couldn't capitalize on it."
Kellogg's lone touchdown came with two minutes left when senior Gus Colburn would return a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown.
Kellogg finishes 2-7.
Homedale (6-3) travels to Emmett in the quarterfinals.
