Lee Kozlowski stencils the facade of the F. Keller Building, home to Designworks and apartments on the second floor, on First Avenue East on Wednesday in downtown Kalispell. Rita Fitzsimmons of Designworks said the work was made possible by a $5,000 grant from the Kalispell Business Improvement District. Fitzsimmons said they have removed a stone veneer added to the building in the 1970s, replaced windows with ultraviolet-protected glass and added a black granite base to the window ledges and foundation walls. They retained the original second-story cornice and metal columns. The front stucco was resurfaced and painted and wood columns were stripped, oiled and painted. The final touches will include awnings and new mahogany doors incorporating original metal grillwork that was found in the basement. Fitzsimmons hopes to have everything completed by early December.
