Tourism projects in Whitefish, Kalispell and Eureka will get a slice of funding for infrastructure from the Montana Department of Commerce.
The state on Monday awarded grants totaling $500,000 through the Tourism Infrastructure Investment program.
Whitefish Legacy Partners will get $75,000 to help build more than 4 miles of trail providing access to Dollar and Little Beaver lakes.
It also will support construction of trailhead facilities at Dollar Lake, as well as interpretive trails and signs for Phase 2 of the Whitefish Trail Learning Pavilion.
The total cost of the project is $325,000.
Whitefish Legacy Partners noted the grant money cannot be used for the Beaver Lakes easement payment for which fundraising needs to be completed by the end of the year.
The Kalispell Convention and Visitors Bureau and Chamber of Commerce will get $63,100 for fabrication and installation of a citywide wayfinding sign system, a project that will cost $97,650.
The Eureka Riverwalk Foundation was awarded $20,000 to help with design and construction of 2 miles of bike/walk trail along Montana 37 that will connect with other trails and the U.S. 93 intersection in Eureka. It’s a $491,191 project.
The state grants are awarded on an annual basis to eligible nonprofit sponsors, communities and tribal nations for the construction of new tourism facilities, enhancement of existing facilities and the preservation of Montana’s heritage and cultural tourism treasures.
