Olive Olson "Ollie" passed away peacefully at home in Bayview, Idaho, on October 25, 2014 - after several months of cascading health issues. Ollie was born to Gladys & Charles Roberts on April 8, 1922, in LaGrande, Oregon, graduating from LaGrande High School in 1939. She attended college in LaGrande and nurses' training at Emanuel Hospital in Portland Oregon where she met Forrest Olson on a blind date. They were married on September 16, 1942.

They were soon "called back to the farm" in Pullman, WA. Together, they worked the Olson family farm for the next 30 years. There, she and Forrest raised daughters Janet and Sally Jo. During that time, she not only did "farm wife" duties, but also worked as an executive secretary at WSU. She taught 4-H home economics for several years, teaching herself and staying one lesson ahead of her "girls." After raising their children, she worked again as a special secretary during the building of the Lower Granite Dam.

She loved playing bridge - belonging to several bridge clubs. She and Forrest "retired" from farming and moved to Bayview, Idaho in 1972. They fixed up their "cabin" making it into a wonderful home. For several years they were snowbirds to Southern California during the winter months - returning to Bayview each spring. Forrest passed away in January of 1986. They had been married 43 years.

Ollie continued to be a winter snowbird to Desert Hot Springs, CA until October 2007, then living in Bayview until her death. She attended Bayview Bible Chapel, was a member of BAB (Bayview Woman's Club) and skillfully played pinochle each week.

Her husband Forrest, parents Charlie and Gladys, four siblings - Pesti, Sonny, Bernadene and Charles preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters Janet (Bill) Somers and Sally Jo (Tony) Matherson, granddaughters Dawn (Rustie) Irby, Stacy (Tadd) Davis, Jayme Harris and Jenifer Harris as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ollie was a strong, gentle, kind, considerate, delightful, woman. She's gone to be with Jesus, her husband Forrest, sister-in-law Hollis, and many other Christian relatives and friends. Please don't weep for her, but pray for those of us who are left and loved her. We will miss her greatly.

Celebration of her life will be 1 p.m. November 9th, 2014 (after Bayview Chapel's church service) at the Bayview Community Center. Please join us for this Remembrance Potluck meal. Instead of flowers, donations to the Bayview Community Center and Hospice of North Idaho would be appreciated. Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
