ROYAL CITY - Royal High School fastpitch coach Heather Verhey has announced a fastpitch workshop for girls in grades 4-12 this Saturday at the high school gym.

Themed "Taking the Game to the Next Level One Pitch at a Time", the workshop will go from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. USA Explosion coach Chris Ries will teach pitching from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

"Each pitcher should bring a catcher with her, preferably an interested parent or family member who they can continue to work with at home throughout the off season," Verhey said.

If you don't have a catcher, you may attend anyway, and one will be provided. It's recommended that catchers bring a 5-gallon bucket to sit on while they catch.

There will be an all-skills session from 12:30 p.m.-3 p.m., which will include infield and outfield, batting and base running. The day will culminate with an instructional scrimmage.

"This clinic will have something for every player," Verhey said. "There will be all levels of instruction, from basic fundamentals to advanced skills."

Participants will register the day of the workshop. The cost will be $24 all day or $12 for half day. Participants should bring sneakers and cleats.

There will be t-shirts and prizes, as well as an afternoon snack. Those participating in the morning pitching and afternoon sessions should bring a lunch.
