From the page to the stage

COEUR d'ALENE - Spazzim, sneedle, glikker, wumbus, wocket, sneetch and gluppity-glupp might sound like nothing to those who don't know the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss, but for Seuss fans, they might just make sense.
Christian Youth Theater-North Idaho is bringing the bright, colorful and fanciful world of Seuss to life on the stage with "Seussical" the musical, a show narrated by the Cat in the Hat, played by 18-year-old Presley DuPuis.
"He's using his imagination and the imagination of the characters to fuel all the spectacle," said DuPuis, of Coeur d'Alene.
The two-act production - written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty - takes audience members through a Seussian world. They will see Horton the Elephant (played by Casey Noye) and other familiar characters as the Cat imagines a storyline filled with songs and misadventures.
"The Cat weaves his way into their stories and causes a lot of mischief," DuPuis said.
Director Trigger Weddle said working on this show has been "such fun."
"Dr. Seuss' world is curvy and spherical and full of lessons for everyone," Weddle said. "The music is addicting; it will get stuck in your head. The words are purely Seuss - some of them are right out of his books, the others are clever and catchy. You don't want to miss an opportunity to see this show."
Nicole Breazeal, 18, of Coeur d'Alene, plays one of the six Bird Girls, who flutter, dance and waddle around the stage while serving as secondary narrators.
"If you're ready for an adventure, buckle your seat belts and enjoy the ride," she said.
This is the last CYT show for DuPuis and Breazeal, who both have been active with the organization for six years.
"I've grown up being a dancer, so dancing in CYT shows is one of my favorite things," Breazeal said.
And what better way to go out than with a Dr. Seuss musical?
"This show is very well done and appropriate for anyone of any age," DuPuis said. "If you love Seuss, if you love to have fun, if you love color, then you should come see it and we'd love to have you."
"Seussical" opens tonight at 7 p.m. at the Kroc Center Theater, 1765 W. Golf Course Road in Coeur d'Alene. Tickets are $10-$13 with discounts for children, seniors and groups.
Other show times: 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, 3 p.m. Sunday, 7 p.m. Nov. 14, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 15 and 3 p.m. Nov. 16.
