Leadership group seeks service projects

Leadership Flathead is accepting proposals from local 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations for service projects to be completed by a team of Leadership Flathead participants between June 2015 and May 2016. 

Leadership Flathead participants make a two-year commitment. During the first year, they enhance their awareness of significant issues and hone leadership skills, and during the second, they commit to a community activity. 

To help identify second-year commitments, Leadership Flathead seeks proposals from local nonprofit organizations for collaborative projects that could be undertaken by the local nonprofit staff, board and a team of five to 12 Leadership Flathead participants. Projects are a minimum of 20 hours and a maximum of 40 hours.

Montana West holds annual meeting

Montana West Economic Development will host its annual meeting and luncheon on Nov. 19. 

The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Montana West’s new office, 44 Second Ave. W. in Kalispell. The meeting will celebrate the economic development in the Flathead. 

Registration is required by Nov. 10 and can be completed online at www.dobusinessinmontana.com.

Christmas Stroll booth registration open 

Vendor booths are available for the Whitefish Christmas Stroll on Dec. 12. 

If a business or organization is interested in being a part of this year’s stroll, booths can be reserved for $35 for the evening, but space is limited.

Learn about Internet scams, web trends  

The Kalispell Brown Bag Series will cover social media, Internet trends and scams on Nov. 12. 

The presentation will provide an overview of social networking, some current Internet fads, pitfalls and crimes. It also covers a wide variety of Internet-based scams and preventative measures that we can all take to keep ourselves safe.  

The presentation includes information provided by the FBI and other government resources that can make everyone a better user of web-based resources. 

The event will take place in the Flathead Valley Community College Arts and Technology Building, Room 139, from noon to 1 p.m. on Nov. 12. The event is free, but participants can RSVP with Tim Frye at 758-6259 or by email at [email protected].

 State holds workshop on wage negotiations

The Montana Department of Labor and Industry will hold a free workshop on how to negotiate your wage upon a job offer. The workshop is geared toward women, but both men and women are welcome. 

This workshop is part of the “Return Smart” series, and will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Flathead Job Service, 427 First Ave. E. in Kalispell. For questions or to register, call 758-6200. 

2015 Great Chief to be awarded original watercolor 

Artist, Karen Leigh, will present an original watercolor painting to the Great Chief Award recipient at Thursday’s Kalispell Chamber of Commerce banquet. 

Leigh’s one-of-a-kind painting will be awarded to the winner of the Great Chief Award winner is the highest honor bestowed by the Chamber, given to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional civic and volunteerism over a lifetime.
