Here are some ways local businesses will say thanks to veterans for their sacrifices and service:

* Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar, 1000 W. Hanley Ave., Coeur d'Alene, will provide a free meal to current and former service members on Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to midnight. Choices include steak, hamburger, shrimp, chicken penne, lime chicken, chicken tenders and Oriental chicken salad.

Guests will need to provide proof of service such as U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform, DD214, Citation or Commendation. The offer is valid for dine-in only. Traditional sides are included with the entrees. Beverages, desserts and gratuity are not included.

* Golden Corral in Coeur d'Alene will thank active duty and retired military personnel for their service with a free dinner buffet and beverage to them on Monday, Nov. 17 from 5-9 p.m. Donations for Disabled American Veterans will be accepted.

State and local DAV representatives will be on site coordinating the collection of donations from customers. Golden Corral and its guests raised more than $1.4 million nationwide for the DAV last year. More than 433,500 active and retired military personnel were served a free meal.
