COEUR d'ALENE - After a weekend of giving it all they've got in a competition held at North Idaho College, one young lady out of 39 participants has been named the Distinguished Young Woman of Idaho for 2015.
Catherine Hinck, a senior at Madison High School in Rexburg in southeastern Idaho, earned the title of Idaho's DYW on Saturday night. Her goal is to have a career in business management and attend Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
Hinck's activities and honors include being a Rexburg Ballet Arts advanced student and a church youth group leader as well as being involved in several choirs, orchestras, her school's key club and national honors society.
Runners-up are senior Sierra Phipps from Declo High School in south-central Idaho and senior Colette Kofoed from Eagle High School outside Boise.
"Coeur d'Alene was very hospitable," said DYW state program chair Darady VanOrden, of Idaho Falls. "The NIC auditorium staff was incredible to work with and we had an excellent group of girls with incredible talent."
Hinck will be representing Idaho in the national DYW competition in Mobile, Ala., for the 58th annual DYW finals in June 2015. All participants will be competing for a share of more than $130,000 in cash scholarships and for the title of Distinguished Young Woman of America.
VanOrden said results will be available on the website sometime today.
