The first half of the U.S. 93 reconstruction project west of Whitefish has been completed on schedule, general contractor Schellinger Construction said Wednesday.

Construction of the second portion of the project, which will extend to Mountainside Drive, will resume next spring

From Oct. 1 through Nov. 10, Schellinger crews worked around the clock on the $10.3 million road project.

To date, crews have installed utilities, put curbs in place, completed paving and graded sidewalks from Karrow Avenue to Fairway Drive. Golf course tunnels, pedestrian tunnels and retaining walls also were completed.

Crews are preparing for winter shutdown and plan to clear out equipment by Saturday.

“Schellinger Construction is pleased to have completed the first half of Karrow to Mountainside reconstruction both on time and with excellence for the Whitefish community,” Schellinger Project Manager Marc Blanden said in a press release. “Completing this required teamwork. The city of Whitefish and the Montana Department of Transportation have been incredibly supportive and key to completing this section before winter.”

Improvements include a wider highway, new bike paths and sidewalks, along with new storm-drain, water and sewer systems.
